Charity Work

Charity work is something that's been massively important to me throughout my life. I have been involved with various voluntary projects from the age of 13 and been fortunate enough to see some of the world in that time. My favourite area to work in is with young people. I spent 6 years working as a youth worker for various charities, mainly for Chiltern Youth Projects. I still volunteer at the same youth centre I used to work at, although it's now branded under Amersham Youth Activities.

My more recent passion is for endurance challenges. Starting in 2015 I have done the Shine Walk for Cancer Research UK every year. This is a walking, overnight marathon in central London. Over my first 3 marathons I managed to reduce my time by 3 hours, although still 5 hours off a decent running time!! Next year (2019) I hope to do the Sahara Challenge in September/October, assuming racing doesn't get in the way!

Endurance Challenges

The first shine walk I did, with my family to raise money for CRUK. There were around 15 of us walking this time. I found the first half of the marathon easy, then made the mistake of taking my shoes off! I completed it in 11 1/2 hours!

Between us, we raised over £10,000 for Cancer Research. My uncle had sadly been diagnosed with cancer in 2015 so it was really important to all of us not only to be able to participate but also to be able to complete this challenge.

I have since done the challenge every year. In 2016 I did a half marathon and combined it with the Swim Serpentine, a one mile swim in the serpentine lake in Hyde Park. I did these both in the same day. In 2017 I did the marathon walk with my cousins again and completed the walk in 8 hours, much better!

This year (2018), the marathon walk is on September 22nd. As is the swim serpentine. Oh, and I'm working that day too. Yep, the plan is to do all 3 in the same day. Swim at 8am, work at 10:30am, walk at 9pm. If you'd like to donate please do get in contact, it would be hugely appreciated. I am splitting the money I raise between Cancer Research UK and Amersham Youth Activities.
